Developing Intuition

The intuition is not a gift, but a human ability that is natural and can be enhanced through practice. It can be developed in the following ways:

1. Provide room to be silent.

The intuition is a prospering in nothing. Meditation, deep breathing, or nature walks are some of the practices that can calm the mind and enable subtle impressions to emerge.

2. Be body conscious.

The body tends to react prior to the mind knowing. Perception of tension, relaxation, warmth or discomfort in various circumstances.

3. Keep a journal

Scribbling what you think, feel, dream and even intuitive impressions can assist you in identifying patterns with time.

4. Go with your initial reaction.

You tend to respond in the most natural manner. It becomes a matter of getting used to it and then thinking about it.

5. Reduce mental noise

Intuition can be subdued by all the continuous distraction. Clarity can be regained by limiting the amount of information and being mindful.

Interpreting Signs

There must be a balance in interpreting signs. They can be simply disregarded or over-analyzed.

It is a healthy practice of being curious and not being obsessive. When you see a possible sign, ask yourself: So what was I thinking or feeling then? Can it be related to something that is going on in my life? How does this mean anything to me as an individual?

Symbols have no common dictionary. Meaning is subjective. It is what you interpret and what it means to you that is important.

Intuition in Decision-Making

Contemporary decision making tends to be more focused on logic, data and analysis. These are necessary but intuition gives a new dimension.

As an illustration, you may weigh all the advantages and disadvantages of a job opportunity and be still indecided. Intuition may give the clarity which logic cannot. It is able to draw attention to things that cannot be easily quantified like doing what is right or satisfying in the long term.

In most cases, the best choices are a mix of the two. Logic gives us framework; intuition gives us guide.
