Spiritual Development: How to have Faith in the invisible(part two)

The Role of Faith in Having Faith in the Unseen

One of the most widespread ways through which individuals can describe their association with the unseen is faith. Faith is commonly related with religion but it also exists beyond conventional faiths. Faith is simply a profound belief in something bigger than one self, be it God, universe, or innate good of life. Faith is a guide to comprehend the suffering, uncertainty, and the unknown and it gives hope to individuals even when the situation appears hopeless.

Faith is a stabilizing force in spiritual development. It enables people to live in misery without losing the meaning of their existence. This does not imply that faith has done away with pain and doubt, but instead, it gives the context upon which the same can be incorporated in the larger story of development. Most spiritual teachings highlight the idea that faith is enforced not when one feels comfortable but when he or she is facing a difficult situation when belief in the unseen becomes a deliberate action, not an abstract notion.

Intuition as a Guide

The other critical element of trusting the unseen is the ability to learn how to listen to intuition. Intuition has been said to be a sense- a feeling that makes decisions without necessarily depending on the rational examination. Although intuition might appear to be elusive, it is a fact of human experience. It appeals to subconscious trends, emotional consciousness, and the life experience, and provides the information that logic might not have noticed.

It takes time and self-awareness to be able to develop trust in intuition. In the world, where the external confirmation and objective results are considered as crucial, individuals might not trust their inner voice or deem it as illogical. Nonetheless, spiritual development helps to make people develop a more personal connection with themselves, to learn to distinguish between intuition and actions that are motivated by fear. In the long run, one will be able to rely on the intuition and make more sincere decisions and feel closer to their values and mission.

Spiritual Development in Uncertainty and Suffering

The most meaningful spiritual developments take place when the person is in unstable times and is in pain. Disease, grief, disappointment, and significant life changes tend to deceive the illusion of control and make people face the vulnerability of life. Although these experiences may be such painful ones, they also offer change opportunities. When structures that are familiar to people fail, individuals can be more receptive to inquiring into more profound questions of meaning, identity, and connection.

It is especially difficult to blindly trust the invisible when it is time to do so. One might not be able to imagine that suffering has a purpose and that growth can be born out of pain. However, there are numerous spiritual teachings that claim that adversities can open the eyes and make people compassionate, humble, and wise. People could find the inner strengths they believe they do not have by learning to have faith in the idea that there is something worth living without getting comfort here and now. This hope does not assure people that they will not experience grief or struggle, rather it enables them to withstand and hope with more strength.

The Practice of Surrender

The act of surrendering is something that is misinterpreted in spirituality. It is not to surrender and give up or resign to fate; but to surrender resistance to what is not in control. Surrendering is a dynamic act of acceptance which is based on faith that the invisible forces of life are not necessarily hostile. Surrendering, people get to know how to work with reality and not fight it all the time.

Surrendering is a very liberating practice. By ceasing to struggle against all insecurities, human beings are able to make room in their lives to grow, innovate and enjoy tranquility. This does not imply giving up on goals and ambitions but being flexible and open to the same. Surrendering helps one to learn that hard work is not always the solution but results are not always in our control. Belief in the invisible will enable people to commit to their will without being engulfed in the fear of loss.
