How Mindfulness Enhances Spiritual Connection(part three)

With the help of observing the scenes, listening, and feeling the environment of nature, it is possible to get a feeling of wonder and awe. It is this awakening that brings out the beauty and multifaceted world creating an attitude of appreciation and admiration. During such moments the distinction between the self and the environment can start to blur and a sense of unity with all life can emerge.

The other major means that mindfulness enhances spiritual connection is through acceptance and letting go. A lot of misery comes as a result of resistance; the wish to have things to be other than they are. This opposition brings tension and does not allow people to experience the present moment in full. It may also create a barrier to the capacity to believe in the flow of life or a higher purpose in a spiritual sense.

Mindfulness teaches the person to accept whatever they are going through without affixation and aversion. This is not a form of passive surrender but is an active receptiveness to reality. People can also develop the feeling of surrender and trust by abandoning the desire to take everything in life under their control. This giving up is commonly referred to as a major aspect of spiritual development, as it enables one to make him/herself consistent with a higher level of purpose or meaning.

Moreover, mindfulness may be used to augment spiritual activities, like meditation, prayer, or contemplation. Although these practices have been commonly linked with particular religious or spiritual practices, mindfulness can also be a valuable enhancement to them, offering more emphasis and intentionality. As an illustration, mindfulness is used in meditation to keep attention on a selected object, be it a breath, mantra or visualization. This enhances the meditation process and enables one to see more.

Likewise, in prayer, mindfulness will help people be present and full of attention as opposed to uttering words in a mechanical manner. This may make the process of prayer more meaningful and heartfelt and it will create a feeling of connection with the divine or a higher power. Even such simple things as lighting a candle or thanking can be effective spiritual practices, when done mindfully.

One more aspect of mindfulness which helps to connect with spirituality is its power to calm the mind. The thoughts and distractions are all the time and might cloud the deeper truths and revelations. Through mindfulness, one gets to learn to be aware of their thoughts, but never to be attached to them. With time, this may cause a state of stillness and silence, when the mind is not filled with so much.

Pure light and infinite love be with us!
