Ceasing to Hold on to Ego and Illusion
One of the greatest barriers on the way to the purpose is the ego or man-made identity formed under the influence of past experience, social roles, and personal stories. As the ego serves an effective purpose in exploring the world, it is also capable of causing illusion, attachment, and fear. When people focus on the ego only, purpose can be confused with comparison, competition and approval.
Spiritual awareness is not being governed by the ego but to be aware of the ego. This does not imply that ego should be eliminated, but rather to know that it has limitations. With the help of ego-driven trends (pride, resentment, or insecurity) observed by people, they can start to loosen the knot and make some breathing room to feel who they truly are.
With the weakening of the ego attachment, individuals tend to feel free. They are not as concerned with demonstrating their value but rather evoke it. According to this point of view, purpose is not about exaltation, but about being the one who adds something to the world and is on the ground and humble.
Purpose Service and Contribution
One of the most widely occurring realizations that come along with the awakening into the spirituality is that purpose has a strong relation with service. When people are in harmony with their inner values, it is natural that they want to make a contribution towards the well-being of other people. This is not always a big gesture or self-sacrifice, service may be in simple gestures of kindness, creative or being there.
Religions in the world focus on the notion of fulfillment through giving and not gathering. Once the purpose is service-based, actions will be imbued with a sense of meaning, and even mundane actions will gain an air of importance. One can also contribute purpose by helping someone, by bringing beauty, by imparting wisdom, or even by just listening and hearing people out in compassion.
Resilience is also promoted by service-orientated purpose. When things go wrong people who recognize their efforts as having significance can go through the rough times. They do not need to know that they are getting immediate reward before they feel that their purpose is fulfilled, but it is attached to a more intricate adherence to values that go beyond their own comfort.
Harmonizing Values, Actions and Purpose
To discover meaning in spiritual consciousness, there must be a harmonization between the values and the deeds. Most individuals find themselves dissatisfied with the life they live every day as it is not what they are actually interested in. Such a lack of alignment causes conflict within oneself and consumes energy.
Spiritual consciousness causes values to be expressed into the conscious. By contemplating and introspecting, one starts to define what actually matters to them, whether it is honesty, compassion, growth and creativity. Without such values being clear, purpose is then a question of living in accordance to such values.
Agreement is not the demand of perfection. Instead of that, it is a constant adaptation and awareness. The smallest decision turns out to be a chance to demonstrate the intent. This coherence and inner peace produced through such a steady alignment in the course of time makes a person feel that he or her life is meaningful and purposeful.
