Discovering Your Mission by Spiritual Sensitivity(part one)

Introduction

In a society where everyone is in a constant state of flux, outside approval and material success, most individuals end up posing a question as old as time itself: Why am I here? Although access to information, technology and opportunity are at an all time high; it is still easy to feel empty or lack purpose. This internal turmoil is usually triggered not by inability to achieve something, but by inability to be in contact with oneself, others and something beyond self-ego. Spiritual awareness is a strong means of finding a way back to the meaning and purpose, not something that is forced upon us, but the one that is awakened.

The process of seeking purpose spiritually is not the process of belonging to a certain religion or a certain belief system. Instead, it concerns developing a more intuitive insight into inner lives, personal values and relationship with the existence in general. Spiritual consciousness is a calling that asks people to see beyond the superficial ambitions and to seek the more important factors, the truths and callings that provide life with a permanent meaning. In this way, purpose is not concerned with what one does, but rather how one lives, perceives and relates to the world.

Realizing the Spiritual Awareness

The sense of spiritual awareness can be defined as conscious awareness of inner self and its connection to universe. It is a heightened sense of being, of meaning and oneness that goes beyond things of an materialistic nature. Spirituality is related to the religious practices but spiritual cognizance is wider and more encompassing. The experience of it can be attained by any person, who desires to learn more and is independent of cultural and religious orientations.

Spiritual awareness starts with self-awareness. It involves a sincere observation of his/her thoughts, feelings, fears and wants. Such self-focus enables one to cut the difference between the social tendencies that the society imposes on them and the genuine voice of their inner selves. When this understanding grows, individuals will tend to feel that there is more meaning to their lives beyond the desired ambition or what the society expects.

Spiritual awareness is also the realization of interconnectedness: the realization that everything and everyone is connected in a large and dynamic unity. This worldview promotes empathy, compassion and responsibility, making people perceive their actions as an important part of a collective being. In this perspective, purpose is not any more isolated or self-centered, but relational and expansive.

The Human Search for Purpose

The purpose-seeking is a basic element of the human experience. Throughout history and in all cultures, human beings have been asking themselves questions concerning meaning, destiny, and fulfillment. Purpose provides a sense of direction to one that can sustain them in time of adversity, make decisions, and hope in the face of uncertainty. Even success and comfort is hollow without the purpose.

The contemporary society tends to determine the aim as productivity, status or success. Since childhood, people are stimulated to set objectives, occupy the profession and evaluate success by the external milestones. Although these things are not necessarily bad, they may be restrictive when they are detached and deprived of internal values and deeper sense. The purpose that is anchored on the outside validation is weak and conditional.

Spiritual consciousness takes the perspective inwards and has individuals not only inquire about what they want to accomplish, but also become. This change modifies purpose into a list of things one has done to fulfill their purpose, but rather makes it alive and a way of expressing the truths of oneself. With the help of spiritual awareness the purpose is brought to the agreement with authenticity, integrity, and inner satisfaction.

Awakening by Stillness Within

Inner stillness is one of the strongest points of access to spiritual awareness.Silence is a concept that is neglected or evaded in a distracted and noisy world. However, it is during the time of silence that people get to listen to themselves.Meditation, mindfulness, prayer, or contemplative reflection are practices that provide room to become aware.

Stillness within will enable people to note their thoughts without being preoccupied with them. This observation shows the extent to which much of the everyday life is dominated by habit, fear or blind response. With the realization of the same, individuals start to know which is in accordance with their real values and which is caused by ego or social pressure. This is what is required in finding purpose.

By being silent, people tend to be guided or have some intuition of a certain inner voice. This direction is not necessarily loud, dramatic, and it can manifest itself in the form of a mute awareness, in a feeling of resonance or in a sense of fit. This inner wisdom is something that needs time and a lot of courage to trust but can give one great insights on the direction of life.

Pure light and infinite love be with us!
